Hut! Hut! HIKE! 🏈
It’s Super Bowl Sunday people!!! If you’re a Chiefs fan, a 49ers fan, a Taylor fan or an Usher fan, today is your day. Honestly, if you’re a snacks fan, today is also your day. There are some fun game day recipes in the links section, but you already know I am making nachos. Below are some fun numbers from CBS Sports that you can wow your friends with:
As a reminder:
HYCU, pronounced haiku: how the news impacts you and your wallet, aka How You Can Use
The Prosperitea: think discount codes, non-boring finance articles, sales, and personal links from the week. The fun stuff 😉
We love your comments, but please remember to keep it positive! And don’t take investing advice from anyone who isn’t your registered financial advisor!
Now that you’re up to speed, let’s get you enRICHed.
Here’s What You Need To Know 👩🏫🏆
Who is playing? The Kansas City Chiefs (Missouri) vs. the San Francisco 49ers (California). The KC Quarterback is Patrick Mahomes, 2x Super Bowl Champion and MVP. The 49ers Quarterback is Brock Purdy, who is 24 years old, which is literally insane.
Where is this happening and when? The game is being held in Las Vegas, Nevada and starts at 5:30 Central Time. Pre-game stuff starts at 4 though, if you care.
Where can I watch? CBS!
I don’t understand football at all. Our girl Victoria Browne broke it down for all of the people out there who want to watch the game but also want to know what’s going on.
Odds Are 🎰🎲
Now, I admit, I did some Super Bowl squares at work this year and for $20, the game will be a little more exciting (even though my numbers SUCK and it is almost certain I will lose). But when it comes to sports gambling, squares are for amateurs.
This Super Bowl is said to set a record, as 1 in 4 Americans is expected to place a bet on the game.
More than 30 states have legalized sports gambling, and as a result 67.8 million American adults are expected to bet $23.1 BILLION today
Beyond the over/under of how many points are scored, there are so many types of prop bets that are being made today. You can bet on certain players receiving yards, number of touchdowns, all of the traditional game related bets. But people also bet on how long the national anthem goes, whether or not they use a mic stand, what color the Gatorade poured on the winning coach is, and whether the coin toss is heads or tails.
There are going to be a LOT of gambling companies trying to convince you to log onto their app today. Free bets or free money will be the draw, but be careful. Usually those free bets stay in the app, and you have to keep betting a certain amount of times before you can withdraw the winnings. And these businesses usually pick the exact # of bets to give you before they hook you!

Let’s Talk Commercials 📺⭐
When you think of the Super Bowl, one of the top 3 things that comes to mind year after year is the commercials. Every year, the ad spot gets more and more expensive, as it’s one of the only live television events that Americans tune into anymore
Why are these ads so expensive? Well, in a world of streaming without ads, about 3 in 4 people say they are actually excited to watch the commercials during the Super Bowl. People talk about them the entire week afterwards, and some of the great Super Bowl ads will live on forever.
Brands have been evolving the game over the years, planting seeds earlier and earlier. This year, Michael Cera and Cerave have caused commotion with genius marketing, and the ad hasn’t even aired live yet.
Apparently beauty brands like NYX and e.l.f. bought ad spots this year. While beauty brands wouldn’t normally be targeting the Super Bowl audience, they are hoping that the girlies will be watching for Taylor.
It doesn’t just cost money to secure a slot, you also have to make the ad. Star power is important, which is why +67% of Super Bowl ads have celebrities in them. The more celebs, the more you spend.
In The Club With My Homies 🎤👏🏾
“I’m so excited for the Usher concert this weekend” said at least 3 people in my office this week. That’s when you know they picked someone good.
Usher is joining the long list of artists who have performed during halftime of the Super Bowl. Usually an icon and a legend, the artist puts on a huge show - whether with lights, dancers, stages, or all 3.
How much money is Usher set to make from this? Less than you expect.
Halftime show performers are not typically paid any more than SAG-AFTRA's minimum union rate (Business Insider). That means that Usher is being paid $671.00 for the concert. WTF?
However, Usher isn’t really doing it for that paycheck. He’s doing it for the exposure and the airtime.
Usher has already been the star of 2 ads, plus has been selected as the new face of Skims’ menswear. Both of which he is being paid for.
Last year, Rihanna saw a 390% boost in song sales and 140% boost in streaming. Usher is hoping that this performance will remind fans of their favorite songs and introduce new ones ahead of his new album release.
And, I mean, he’s everywhere. The LA Times did a piece on him, TIME magazine and the New York Times are covering his best hits and setlist expectations. And if the performance hits as expected, I am sure social media will be set ablaze (Rihanna literally broke Twitter last year)
Rich Tip of the Week: Rich BFF Favorite Credit Cards
Felix Towers of Axios did a round-up of new money-related books to read this year.
Something I cooked this week: I made this cheesy spring onion, leek and potato frittata for Galentines brunch, but for the Super Bowl I’ll make my bestie’s NACHOS and creamed corn dip
Something I read this week:
wrote this wonderful reflection on her first year of marriage and I sent it to my husband, who agreed. Some things I watched this week: Traitors on Peacock (this show is so good)
Some things I loved this week:
These yoga pants from Vuori look so cute and I already know the material will be cozy because I live in this tank top
I got this Body Cleansing Kit from NERRA and let me know tell you, my skin is so soft. The amount of dry skin that came off using the exfoliating body glove was so satisfying.
Stopped into Sephora for hand cream and left with a new color of my favorite ILIA Multi-Stick: A Fine Romance.
