👗 Nothing To Wear 😭
Last weekend, I had a semi-formal fundraiser. I was so excited to support my friends who were hosting, and my husband and I even got a room to stay overnight in the city so we wouldn’t have to leave early. When it came time to pack, BOY am I glad I gave myself extra time. In trying to pick out an outfit, I had a full meltdown. You know when you see something in your head and then you put it on and it looks so awful? Yup.
I settled on all black with some fun shoes and called it a day. Then, on Monday, I set time aside to “shop my closet” as the Substack fashion girlies would say. And can I tell you something? It worked! I looked at saved Pinterest photos, tried to make them myself, and took photos of all of the outfits. In the process, I found old clothes that I used to love, and styled them in new ways. All of this is to say: you don’t always need new clothes. You probably already have something close to what you think you want and if you don’t - think about why!
However, I will say that this is good exercise in finding closet gaps. I recently bought this new pair of boots and apparently they now help me make outfits with 3 tops I never could figure out how to wear. Sounds mythical, I know!!! But I highly recommend this exercise if you think you have nothing to wear. You def do and it’ll help you shop more consciously should you choose to!
As a reminder:
HYCU, pronounced haiku: how the news impacts you and your wallet, aka How You Can Use
The Prosperitea: think discount codes, non-boring finance articles, sales, and personal links from the week. The fun stuff 😉
We love your comments, but please remember to keep it positive! And don’t take investing advice from anyone who isn’t your registered financial advisor!
Now that you’re up to speed, let’s get you enRICHed.
Nvidia 💾📈
Each week when sourcing content for you, I read ~50 email newsletters that give me round ups and spur me into action. This week I couldn’t ignore “Nvidia” as it was literally in every single email since Wednesday. So, let’s talk about it.
Nvidia’s entire business model was once built around making chips for gaming consoles. They are riding the coattails of the AI boom, as their chips are now powering AI systems. The stock market is absolutely loving this:
They reported earnings on Thursday and gained $277 billion in value, which is the biggest single-day gain ever on Wall Street. Revenue from the data center unit was up +400% from last year, and total revenue was up 265% YoY.
Apparently, the gaming console processors can be used for Bitcoin mining, and Chat GPT/AI programming.
HYCU; Goldman Sachs’ trading desk is calling Nvidia the “most important stock” on Earth. People are saying there is going to be another dot-com bubble explosion, short sellers of the stock lost billions in 1 day. So while we wish we got into this stock earlier, it’s worth keeping an eye on as it’s become so important to the AI, supply chain, and investor story overall.
SoFi x NBA 🏀🏧
Our BFF is obviously a SoFi girlie, but today we are covering their next new partner, the NBA!
SoFi recently announced their official banking partnership with the NBA. Normally, this means putting SoFi patches on jerseys - but SoFi is also leveraging this partnership to further their financial literacy initiatives.
Through the SoFi Generational Wealth Fund, they have committed $1 million to financial wellness through Jayson Tatum’s S.M.A.R.T. Project (which helps single parents through their financial journey).
Now, I want to help others outside the league up their financial game. I’m excited to be working with an innovative partner like SoFi, who is ushering in a new generation of ways to get your money right, to help spread the word on financial literacy and planning for a bright future. - Jayson Tatum, 5x NBA All-Star
As Nicole Casperson writes “As SoFi solidifies its role as the official bank of the NBA, it not only reshapes the fintech landscape but also demonstrates the transformative power of fintech in shaping culture and community impact.”
HYCU; let’s be real, we’re used to seeing Chase and BofA up there as sponsors. This is a big deal. SoFi has always been innovative in its approach, committed to financial literacy and sustainable wealth building, and this partnership with the NBA will bring all of this work to a global stage. This is a great example of brand and community building through partnerships, and will be a huge step forward for everyone working to advance financial literacy. Woo!
IVF News
We usually avoid politics on this email, but we can’t really ignore what’s going on in Alabama. The Alabama Supreme Court ruled that frozen embryos are children, and those who destroy them can be held liable for wrongful death. As the media covers the situation unfolding, it’s important to know where the conversation is stemming from.
Where did this suit come from? 3 sets of parents in Mobile, AL allege that in December 2020, a patient at the hospital where their frozen embryos were being stored dropped the embryos on the floor and killed them.
The trial court dismissed their suit, as the embryos didn’t fit within the definition of a ‘person’ or ‘child’ and thus cannot be the subject of a wrongful death suit.
However, last week, the state Supreme Court reversed the ruling. They maintain that “extrauterine children” – or, unborn children “located outside of a biological uterus at the time they are killed” – are children, and they are covered under the state’s Wrongful Death of a Minor law. (CNN)
HYCU; the impact on IVF has become a main point of discussion, and while the impacts are plentiful from an emotional standpoint, financially there are 3 main points of concern. Liability costs could make fertility treatment prices prohibitive for many families. Liability costs and fear of retribution could discourage doctors from performing the treatments in the first place. And there is also worry that parents will be made to pay for their embryos to be stored because they aren’t allowed to discard them, which costs hundreds of dollars a year.
NPR also reports that surplus embryos reduce both the cost and risk of IVF.
Student Loan Update 👩🎓✍️
On Wednesday, +150K Americans received an email from President Biden. Their student debt, totaling +1.2 billion dollars, had been canceled.
The latest relief targets people enrolled in the Saving on a Valuable Education plan. The plan allows for borrowers who borrowed less than $12K and have been making payments for 10 years to have their debt forgiven.
There is obviously pushback as there has always been when it comes to Biden’s student loan relief program, but nearly four million Americans have received relief, which is nothing to scoff at.

Some things I read this week: Save Me The Plums, great audiobook alert!!! Also, 50 journal prompts for self love a la Katrina’s newsletter last week. OH! And
is doing great stuff with The Purse: Living in the San Francisco Bay Area on $13,200 a Month (do we need to do this series with the besties!?)Some things I watched this week: Players on Netflix, god I love Gina Rodriguez, she is a romcom queen. 🚨LOVE IS BLIND🚨 let’s start a chat thread to discuss because I am hooked.
Cheap things that helped make my aforementioned outfits:
Sheer socks. Instant upgrade to my loafers and ballet flats. Google outfits with them, you’ll find some you like.
A good belt. I now have a belt collection that includes: brown croc, black leather, brown leather, cheetah print, and pink velvet. None of them cost me more than $50 and I instantly feel better when I have a belt on.
A good white T. Mine is from Sezane, but find one that works with what you like. Hanes is a good cheap option if you don’t like splurging on white!
A button down. Thrift these, shop your partners’ closet, whatever. A button down can add a pop of color or pattern, and double as a coverup on vacation.
Having my hair done. Literally blow drying my hair made every outfit I put together look cuter. Do it yourself!!! LMK if you want my blow dry brush recs because your girl cannot and will not pay for a Dyson.
SEE YOU IN THE COMMENTS BESTIES
